FROM SURVIVAL TO A NEW LIFE
Kajuli arrived with a severe head injury, profound weakness,and one eye damaged beyond repair. Surgery had to wait until her body was strong enough.
Three weeks of intensive supportive care gave her the strength to take the next step.
Kajuli was a stray cat who was regularly fed and cared for by a compassionate person in her neighbourhood. One day, she was struck by a car and suffered a severe head injury. The rescuer who had been looking after her immediately brought her to the clinic for emergency treatment.
Kajuli arrived in critical condition. One of her eyes was completely damaged, and she was severely anemic. She was also suffering from hookworms and a heavy flea infestation, which had further weakened her body. Although she urgently needed surgery, her condition made it too dangerous to operate immediately. The veterinary team first had to stabilise her and help her regain enough strength to safely undergo the procedure.
She received pain medication, oxygen support, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, iron supplements, deworming, and treatment for parasites. She also needed patient hand-feeding until she was able to begin eating by herself. Despite the trauma she had endured, Kajuli responded remarkably well to treatment and gradually became stronger.
After three weeks of supportive care, the veterinary team repeated her complete blood count. Her haematocrit level had improved, and she was finally stable enough for surgery. Unfortunately, one eye was completely damaged, while the other had permanently lost its vision. To relieve her pain and prevent further complications, the difficult but necessary decision was made to remove both eyes.
Following surgery, Kajuli continued receiving pain medication and antibiotics. She also wore an E-collar to protect the surgical sites while they healed. With careful monitoring and continued support, she made a complete recovery.
Kajuli is now permanently blind, but she is healthy, comfortable, and free from pain. Her devoted rescuer adopted her and gave her the safe, loving home she needed. Kajuli may no longer be able to see the world, but she has been given another chance to experience it through security, affection, and care—and to shine brighter than ever.
HEALTHY, BUT STILL WAITING
Kajuli’s recovery is a medical success but her story is not yet complete. She still needs a patient, secure, and loving family who will help her build confidence and navigate the world step-by-step.
She lost her sight, but not her ability to experience love, comfort, and a fulfilling life.
